Sumner Street Shea LLC is an online store specializing in premium unrefined shea butter. Our shea butter is grown and harvested from local artisans in Ghana, West Africa. Each bottle is carefully hand-manufactured and made fresh to order to ensure maximum quality and customer satisfaction.
Frustrated by the lack of shea butter in her community, Sumner Street Shea founder, Wentemi Martey, created a skincare line to expose premium shea butter grown in Ghana.
Sumner Street Shea launched in 2021 with our signature product: unrefined shea butter infused with tropical essential oils. Our essential oil mixes are inspired by the tropical ambiance and colors of Ghana.

About The Founder
My name is Wentemi. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon into a Ghanaian family. After graduating from Portland State University, I worked in different industries with entrepreneurship as my ultimate goal. I volunteered my time as a member and later the President of the Ghana Association of Oregon, a local nonprofit cultural organization.
I first experienced shea butter at my family home on Sumner Street. We brought unrefined shea butter from Ghana to Portland during our family vacations. It was hard to find unrefined shea butter on the shelves in the Portland metro area. I believe that everyone needs to experience this luxurious Ghanaian gem. It’s my pleasure to share a piece of my culture with everyone!

About Our Shea Butter
Shea butter is the fat extracted from the nuts of the Karité tree. We only use premium shea nuts sourced from Ghana, West Africa, specifically in the northern regions where the Karité tree grows abundantly. Our shea butter is unrefined and created with time-tested methods by local Ghanaian shea artisans. Each shea nut is inspected and handpicked to guarantee the smooth texture of our products.
We source unrefined Ivory Shea butter that is the purest form of Shea butter. It naturally has a mild nutty aroma which indicates freshness. We never mix our body butter with parabens and chemicals. We keep the integrity of our Shea butter pure by using natural ingredients. Each jar is carefully handcrafted in Oregon and infused with organic coconut oil and essential oils. Our signature essential oil mixes are exclusive to Sumner Street Shea. The tropical ambiance and warm colors of Ghana inspire our creations.
Shea butter is known for its healing properties and has been a trusted salve used by many generations. Unrefined Ivory Shea butter contains vitamins A, E, and F that are natural antioxidants and moisturizing properties.
